PARISH HISTORY

Originally a tin hut, the predecessor of All Saint's church was known as St. Mary's Chapel. This chapel stood further up Tredegar Road from where the present day church stands.

The tin hut was erected in order to meet the Spiritual needs of the many thousands of migrant workers who were flocking to Ebbw Vale to find work during the 1800's.

The Catholic school was initially built to accomodate 200 children and stood in the grounds of the old church.

St. Mary's chapel was destroyed in a fire, and, on the grounds where the old chapel once stood was built the " new infants block"  - part of the school.

The present day church was completed in 1924. It was built on land which had been previously used to stable the horses used by Richard, Thomas & Baldwin Steelworks.

It is an impressive looking church which overlooks Ebbw Vale.

To the right of the main entrance is a side gate which leads to the recently renovated land which is now a memorial garden. The names of our deceased parishioners are transcribed into a Memorial book.

The book stands at the back of the church and is opened each day.....prayers are said for those whose anniversaries occur at that time.

Information regarding the local Catholic schools can be found on the LINKS page.
